A different kind of week off
Skip the parking lot. Trade it for open hills.
Spring break in Los Angeles usually means one of two things: fighting beach traffic, or scrolling the same five theme parks everyone else already booked. If your family or friend group wants something different this year, Highline Adventures swaps the crowded parking lot for open ranch land, zipline cables and blooming hillsides.
It is close enough to Los Angeles for a long day trip and far enough to feel like a real getaway — without the long haul to Tahoe or the desert.

Why spring is the season
This is what late March looks like here.
- Green hills
- Protea in bloom
- Mild temperatures
- Lighter crowds
Spring is arguably the best season to visit the Santa Ynez Valley. The hills are green, the ranch's protea fields are in bloom, and daytime temperatures are mild enough for a full day outdoors — without the heat that settles over Central California by June.
For Los Angeles families, whose school breaks mostly land in late March and early April, that timing matters: better weather for outdoor adventure than most of the year, and lighter crowds than a summer weekend.
Five ways to spend the day
Full adrenaline, or a slower walk through the flowers.
Every activity books separately, and groups can mix them in a single visit — pair a zipline tour with Skynet, or an Adventure Park session with a Protea Tour — so everyone gets something suited to their energy level.
The big thrillZipline Tour
California's biggest and fastest zipline experience: 1.5-plus miles of cable across three lines, 400 feet up, past 50 mph. Starts with a 4x4 Humvee ride to the summit. 1.5 to 2 hours, up to 12 guests per tour.

Youngest kidsSkynet Playground
A netted aerial playground strung high in the trees, no harness required. Bounce, climb and lounge across the woven net. No gear to strap into, so it folds easily into a day that already includes a zipline or ropes-course session.

Earn the descentHike & Fly
A guided hike up through the protea fields — 2-plus miles and 1,100 feet of vertical — then a zipline descent back to basecamp. In spring, with the fields in bloom and the air still cool, it is the best version of the tour. 1.5 to 2 hours.

A slower paceProtea Tour
A roughly two-hour guided walk through the working protea farm — flowers native to South Africa and Australia that thrive in the valley's dry, sunny climate. Spring is the best time of year to see them. A relaxed option for parents or grandparents on a more active family trip.
